1,000 Places to See Before You Die, 2nd Edition

A #1 New York Times bestseller, Patricia Schultz’ 1,000 Places to See Before You Die redefined the travel book as both a wish list and practical guide. Now, the world’s bestselling travel book is back in a more informative, experiential and budget-friendly full-color edition. It features over 200 new entries, including 28 countries like Lebanon, Croatia and Nicaragua, that were not in the original edition. Every entry from the original has been readdressed and made fuller. And throughout, the book is more budget-conscious, recommending not only the Ritz, but also moderately priced gems. Brought to vivid life in more than 500 full-color photographs, these 1,000 Places beckon in a unique guide that puts a whole new spin on travel.

Good - but too much
June 04, 2012

The author's trying to cover the world makes it too much of a good thing. And at same time, too little of any one continent. Plus the selection of what to see was scattered. By trying to cover all aspects of what to see none of the types were widely covered. There is a NIKE ad showing a man running "around" the world and being seen in a variety of places almost all of which are probably known by most people. Trying to add in a bunch of the lesser known sites, some of the major ones were omitted. But then -it's my opinion being a non-world traveler - only small parts of three continents and a lot of North America. I wonder if it would have been better as 6 or 7 books, one per continent. Bird guides usually do that, rather than try for all in one book.

Hope I live Long Enough!
March 02, 2012

I thought this was really worthy effort! It has inspired me to do additional research on a wide range of places that would probably never have made it onto my radar scope. The overviews are excellent and quickly give you a feel for the type of place you would visiting. My only complaint would be that for hotels and eateries they seem to always choose the most expensive. Overall though an exceptional value.

Not what I thought
February 07, 2012

I thought this would be a little more detailed. Unless you plan to travel the world and you just want a small bit of info. on different places around the globe, then this book is for you, otherwise not worth it.
