In 1152, a beautiful woman of 30 left her crown, her two daughters and her shattered marriage to King Louis of France for the man she loved. The woman was Eleanor of Aquitaine, and the man she fled to, Henry Plantagenet, soon took the crown as King Henry II. Theirs was a union founded on lust, and it led to the creation of one of the greatest empires in Christendom…and to one of the most notoriously vicious marriages in history.
In Captive Queen, acclaimed author Alison Weir (Mistress of the Monarchy, The Lady in the Tower) gives us a brilliantly wrought historical novel centered on Eleanor’s explosive marriage to Henry, from its fiery beginnings to its downward spiral as it’s marred by power struggles, betrayals, infidelities, bitter rivalries and a devil’s brood of Plantagenets—including Richard the Lionheart and the future King John. A gifted historian and master storyteller, Weir brings their story to vivid life, immersing us in sights, sounds and passions of the era as no one else can. The result is absolutely gripping: an epic tale about the making of nations, and of a formidable woman who—by following her heart—forever changed the world.

While Eleanor of Aquitaine is a fascinating historical figure and her story rivals any fiction, I can't get past the stilted hokey dialogue - its like a bad romance novel. Haven't been desperate enough to pick it back up to read some more.

By far... One of the best written books I have ever read of this time frame. I never wanted it to end but couldn't wait to see the ending.
A book about a powerful women ahead of her time!!
