Quick, simple read

I am a relative new comer to the Anne Perry books and have enjoyed the Inspector Pitt and Charlotte characters. This was a sweet book but seemed geared more toward a younger audience. It read easily and quickly and not a lot of thought was required to get through the book. It was a nice 'cozy' and a change of pace from her other books in the series.

Lightweight and Juvenile

I have read a lot of Anne Perry, including the previous Christmas ones. This one was okay, but after reading it I gave it to my 12-year old as more her level than mine. The ending was contrived. I hope the next one returns to the previous standard.

Not Anne Perry's best...

I love Anne Perry's writing and have read all of the Inspector and Charlotte Pitt series as well as all of the William Monk series. Ms. Perry evokes Victorian England so vividly that one feels as if he/she is walking in the streets along with the characters. However, for the first time I was terribly disappointed in one of her books. I found The Christmas Promise extremely juvenile and more suited to a children's audience. It felt as if she churned out something quickly to meet a deadline, without her usual perspicacity,excellent character development,and attention to plot development.

Nice and Cozy

I read most of the books in her Christmas genre and found that they were very relaxing during the week I had finals for school. I handed them off to my parents and they have been enjoying them as well.
