Have a Rumpole Christmas with five of the late John Mortimer’s charming holiday stories. Published only in magazines, they’re collected here in book form for the first time.
Horace Rumpole isn’t a big fan of Christmas—time tends to drag as the usual rituals are observed. The criminal element rarely takes a holiday, though, so the great barrister’s festivities have been disrupted in welcome ways. Whether it’s a Father Christmas who behaves suspiciously at Equity Court’s Christmas party or a high-profile murder trial that comes up just before the holiday season or a body found at the health spa where Rumpole is trying to survive a diet of yak’s milk and spinach, there’s always something exciting to liven up the dull days of Christmas.

The five stories were classic Rumpole. They were extremely easy reads. Readign them will be a Christmas tradition for me from here on out. As always Mortimer captures the trial lawyers disdain for judges and other authority figures while allowing Rumpole to still somehow remain in what passes for the Christmas' spirit for Rumpole.

A pleasant holiday read indeed. The five short stories made it easy to finish one amid the holiday rush times.
