Alex Cross’ birthday celebration with his family is cut short by a phone call that brings him a very unhappy surprise: The body of his estranged brother’s daughter, Caroline, has turned up in the trunk of an abandoned car. Upon viewing her remains, Alex vows to track his niece’s killer to the ends of the earth. But he doesn’t have to go that far. Shortly after he begins the investigation, Alex discovers Caroline was living a lifestyle way above her means, right there in the nation’s capital. And she isn’t the killer’s only victim. It doesn’t take Alex and his girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, long to zero in on an infamous Washington club nestled deep in the woods…a place where every fantasy, no matter how twisted, can come true. When FBI Agent Ned Mahoney advises Alex and Bri that the fallout from this case could be enormous, they get the picture; the killer could be from the highest echelons of Washington's elite. And if that’s the case, they’re dealing with a desperate man who has the power to do whatever it takes to keep his secret buried. With astonishing plot twists and electrifying revelations, I, Alex Cross is James Patterson’s most suspenseful Cross adventure yet.

As an African American woman, I know it is imperative that my people know and understand our history, and the atrocities of slavery, racism and discrimination but it still angers and depresses me. HOWEVER, James Patterson, my favorite author, has done it again. This story was riveting, I could not put it down. I really wanted the story to go on, maybe more about what happened to Moody. Patterson, you did it again this book was awesome!!!

I began reading James Patterson with the The Midnight Club. When he started his Alex Cross series I was really excited. Cross is my idea of a real hero and problem solver and I love Nana. Cross hasn't disappointed me yet. However, when Patterson moves away from Cross, I simply don't enjoy that nearly book as much. The Lake House and The Beach House were okay; The Jester was awful. His WMC series is pretty good, kinda ho-hum. Still for me, Patterson's Alex Cross is the best of all his characters and I'll continue to read those books. I also love the short chapters; wading through long drawn-out descriptions and endless dialogue doesn't always set the scene for me.

Definitely, the best Patterson book ever. Yes, I have read them all. As another white middle aged woman, I learned a lot about the history we don't like to think about. I felt like I was transported back in time and was living through the trial too. I read the book in a day and was sorry when it was over.

As an avid reader of all genre, I find James Patterson to be an exceptional writer. He shows great creativity, and a real talent for gripping and holding his readers interest. I found this book to be very disturbing and shameful for the american people, when will we ever get past the hate and hurt of all our peoples, of all races?
