As a child, Dave Pelzer lived a nightmare. He was forced to sleep in a garage without a blanket and fed only scraps the dog wouldn't eat. He was poisoned, beaten and tortured almost to the point of death by his alchoholic mother who called him 'It.' And worst of all, his father and brothers looked the other way. In his best-selling book A Child Called "It," Dave describes what a horrific childhood he had and how his dreams helped him survive. Then one day, the nightmare ended and he was rescued. In his outstanding memoir The Lost Boy, Dave continues the harrowing but ultimately inspiring tale of how he never gave up his search for someone to love and a family to call his own. An inspiring testament to the triumph of the human spirit. Explicit violence.

I read this book years ago when I did not even like to read. My view on reading was "gosh do I have to!" I orginally picked this book for a book report in high school and from the first sentance could not put it down and even read it within two days. A year after I read a child called "it" I met the author and he told his story and what he has over come. I didnt relize when reading the book that it was all true. I thought "fluff" was added to make it even better. Thats not the case with this book every detail actually happened to him. Truely a sad book but a awesome read. I have even read it multipul times since then. The book I own is falling apart I have read it so much.

This has got to be one of the most compelling and captivating stories i have EVER read! Very descriptive and real! It felt like i was really there with this poor child and I cried a lot. I can't believe that this really happens. I was lucky enough to have a great childhood and felt bad after reading this that everyone didn't. My heart goes out to this boy. I can't believe that he has survived these heinous crimes.

I read this book several years ago when it first came out. I could not stop the outrage and anger I felt toward his mom and dad. I cried through out the whole book and could not put the book down once I started reading it until I had finished the whole book. How could anyone be so depraved, how could no one not notice what was going on. My heart goes out to Dave. I wanted to wrap my arms around him at the end of the book to let him know that he was loved not only by God but by me. No child should ever have to suffer abuse. If the parents don't want kids then take them to a police station, social services, a hospital or even the next door neighbor instead of abusing them. I still haven't understood when Dave was finally removed from the home WHY was the mother not ARRESSTED for child abuse and pull time, but then again I thought no, that would be too good for her. She should have had the same things done to her.
To the author: Dave you are very much loved and I as a mother am so very sorry that you had to endure so much pain in your life.

I read this book a year ago and was totally sadden by the fact that you have theses monsters of parents who think that they can do just anything they feel like to their children. What I don't understand why have the children then? I have gotten to the point if I see abuse I call it in because I refuse to stand by and not do anything for a child who can't do for himself but be abused by this monster mother or father. No! I give thanks to God that I had a decent life besides being in foster care for three years but that's alright. Parents: If can only abuse your child/children because you have no comment sense? Please give the child to Social Services or to someone who cares..because counting to 10 isn't going to do it for you! This book will take you inside to the insights of a child suffering ABUSE! I seen a comment on here about how graphic it is, and believe me it's a reality check!!!! God Bless Dave for writing this book! GOD BLESS OUR CHILDREN! (Lock them up and Throw the Key away for Abusers)
