One devastating secret could leave psychologist Alan Gregory’s life in ruins. His efforts to keep the secret—and protect his friend, detective Sam Purdy—place Alan directly in the line of fire as Stephen White’s bestselling series reaches its penultimate volume.
As wildfires threaten Alan’s Colorado home, his partner, Diane, has been evacuated—and the resulting trauma has her perched on the edge of a breakdown. Meanwhile, new evidence in an apparent suicide case may implicate Sam. Will he lie to the deputy D.A.—Alan’s wife, Lauren—to save himself? And when Alan’s new patient, an auto-accident victim who recently emerged from a coma, overhears an incriminating conversation, the psychologist’s career and marriage may be doomed.

His worst book yet - what a disappointment

No stars for this one. I agree with Sabrina. I was greatly disappointed in the plot....seemed too much imagined. Unlike her, I did not finish. It seemed like he labored too much on this book. Sad

This tale was a tragic confluence of events, filled with difficult moral choices but ultimately, a story of love. For those who find it otherwise, I feel sad. In their inability to see beyond the surface, they fail to appreciate that life can suddenly surround us with dark realities and seemingly impossible dilemmas when we least expect them. What was Alan to do? He knew that any choice he made, would yield great pain for someone he loved dearly.....not a place I'd like to be!
